Robbie Cano- Don’t ya know?

I am a HUGE Robinson Cano fan. I nearly fainted when I met him at a Nets game (see picture below). But Robbie, what are you doing?! I understand that you want a good contract – but $300M?! That’s more than any contract in baseball history. I know it’s all about the money, but what about playing for the love of the game? Or even team loyalty?!

I always thought that Cano would be the next Yankee lifetimer, following in the footsteps of so many tremendous legends before him. But he’s going after the money rather than the pinstripes.

As far as I am concerned, the Yanks offered him a very generous deal: $170M over 7 years. Cano and his team are seeking a 10 year contract for $260M (recently lowered from $300M). First of all, Cano is too old for a 10 year contract. I’m sure he has 10 good years left in him but who knows what can happen in that span of time?! I personally thought Jeter had 5-6 good years left before his injury but that certainly isn’t the case. Secondly, if we learned anything from the A-Rod debacle, it’s that you shouldn’t tie up large sums of money in one player. It’s too risky!

Rumor has it that Seattle is going to offer him $200M over 8 years. It would be a shame to see him move to a subpar organization for the money but only time will tell. I certainly hope to see Cano back in the Bronx come March. He is one of the most talented players in the game and so much fun to watch everyday. I just wish someone would bring him back to reality. You’re living the dream, Robbie. You’re playing the game you love with the most reputable sports organization in the world and making a large sum of money to do so. Sounds like a good deal to me!
